Data will be used to better inform the conversation and solutions around plastic pollution in the region. The project is funded by Environment and Climate Change Canada and is in partnership with Clean Annapolis River Project (CARP), ACAP Humber Arm, and Dr. Max Liboiron at the Civic Laboratory for Environmental Action Research (CLEAR) out of Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN). Dr. Max Liboiron is our chief academic advisor on the 3-year project, assisting with project development, methods and protocol, and sampling design. The project included sampling both surface water and beach sediment at all three study locations. The surface water trawling equipment was built using CLEAR's low-aquatic debris instrument (LADI) design. This document contains the results from the 2018 surface water samples. Sediment data results for 2018 and hot-spot data from 2019 will be available in 2020.\n\ncdm_data_type = TimeSeries\nVARIABLES:\ntime (Start Datetime, seconds since 1970-01-01T00:00:00Z)\nend_datetime (seconds since 1970-01-01T00:00:00Z)\ndate_collected (seconds since 1970-01-01T00:00:00Z)\nstudy_area\nlocation\nsample_id\nplastic_id\ntype\nsize_class\ncolour\ncolour_2\nerosion\nerosion_type\nerosion_type_2\nbeaufort_sea_state\ntrawl_speed (knots)\n... This monitoring was formalized as the Bedford Basin Monitoring Program (BBMP), a weekly time series, in 1999. Dalhousie University joined the BBMP in 2008 to begin a bio-optical time series, beginning a close relationship between academic and government researchers. This dataset consists of data collected by a Bio Optical Profiler (BOP)which is a series of instruments mounted on a large cage. There are no measurements taken in August of each year as the vessel is away for maintenance. The Bedford Basin station (BB1) is at 44.693611 N, -63.640278 E and has a maximum depth of 73 m, though the instruments are typically only sent to 60 m. Each subindex is normalized using the 1991-2020 climatological period. Some signs were reversed so that positive anomalies are indicative of warmer conditions (e.g. sea ice). Newfoundland and Labrador climate index - All Fields. The Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) climate index aims to describe the environmental conditions on the NL shelf and in the Northwest Atlantic as a whole. It consists of annual normalized anomalies of 10 subindices with equal contribution: Winter North Atlantic Oscillation, air temperature, sea ice, icebergs, sea surface temperature, vertically-averaged temperature and salinity at Station~27, cold intermediate layer (CIL) core temperature at Station~27, CIL area on 3 hydrographic sections and bottom temperature on the NL shelf. This index runs from 1951 to 2019 and will be updated annually. Data associated with Cyr, F. and Galbraith, P. S.: A climate index for the Newfoundland and Labrador shelf, Earth Syst. Sci.
